A Supercross is usually filled with its share of dramatic moments. From the jump off the gate to those first turn pile ups, all the way to that finish and everything in between, the action at Supercross is always nonstop.

The 2010 Phoenix Supercross had more dramatic moments than your normal race. However it was in those days that followed that the drama grew with various opinions that were blasted across message boards and blogs. I certainly appreciated the hot topics brought to the surface by the many people who love the sport of Supercross. And like you I have my own thoughts on the James Stewart and Chad Reed ‘incident’ …

It was just one year ago when a controversy made headlines with Jason Lawrence, Josh Hansen and Steve Boniface were ‘fighting’.

The backlash for those guys were met by AMA officials. Last year the Rules stated that the following offense is subject to disciplinary action:

An attack on a Racing official and/or engaging in a fight. This includes any person who attacks or is involved in a fight anywhere on the premises prior to, during, or after an AMA Supercross meet. There will be no maximum fine or suspension period for this offense.

My point here is that Supercross is no stranger to its share of drama but in the aftermath of last year, and now Phoenix, what does it take to show some true sportsmanship and character in tough occupation?

James commented thru his blog initially. Info on Chad Reed came thru Kawasaki and Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Manager Mike Fisher stated that Chad would not return to racing until he is 100 percent. Chad is expected to miss a minimum of six weeks to heal his broken left hand. Six to seven weeks puts us near the Daytona Supercross and by then there will still be eight races left on the schedule.

Super Bowl Ad: Hyundai Genesis Coupe is not just a sports car, it saves lives too

Posted in Uncategorized on February 6th, 2012 by fannieriley0

Since the Super Bowl only comes out once a year, the race to have the best auto commercial is usually fast, feverish, and packed with plenty of attention-grabbing scenes. This year, Hyundai is rolling out an armada of ads to keep itself relevant to viewers during the Big Game.

One commercial, in particular, features the Hyundai Genesis Coupe, which, for all of it’s outstanding qualities, possesses an equally strong trait that just might be the most important of them all: it has the ability to bring a man back to life!

In this ad, a man is driving his Genesis Coupe with his “pops” riding shotgun and giving him the whole spiel on how to be successful in life. In the middle of the latter’s soliloquy, he ends up getting a heart attack, to which the driver decides to use his sports car as an oversized defribillator, alternately accelerating and braking the car until pops comes back to life.

As soon as he does, he finishes off his advice to young Jensen, oblivious to the fact that he came this close to heading over to the while light, all thanks to Anderson and his “pulse-pounding” Genesis Coupe.

Clever ad, Hyundai.

UFC 143 video: Alex Cacares loves the big time, but misses the days of backyard brawling

Posted in Uncategorized on February 6th, 2012 by fannieriley0

LAS VEGAS — The crowds, money, adulation, safety precautions are all dynamite for 23-year-old Alex Cacares as he fights for the biggest mixed martial arts promotion in the world, but the Miami native misses the days of what appears to be a much more barbaric mode of fighting – the backyard brawl.

Those types of fights have been going down since the beginning of time. They recently became headliners again with the growth of YouTube and exposure for guys like Kimbo Slice in the Miami area.

As a hulking stack of muscle and intimidation, Slice fit the part. Cacares is slender and appears to be non-threatening, but when you hear him talk about his teenage experience with those pit fights you realize the kid loves to fight anywhere, anytime.

“I got into it because I was underage to get into professional fighting, “Cacares told Cagewriter just a few days before his 11 pro fight at UFC 143. “I was doing amateur fights at the time. I really wanted to get into a professional fighting, minimize the hand protection, no shin guards and really see what I could do.”

The UFC currently uses four ounce gloves which are tiny compared to boxing’s eight and 10 ounce models. Cacares still prefers the more primitive style of using bare-knuckles. “I believe bare knuckle hurts less than wearing these UFC gloves. I’ve been hit by both  and I’d rather be hit by the bare knuckle,” Cacares said the gloves increase the surface area of the fist and seem to make the punches stick more. “The bare knuckle slides off more. When you get hit by the whole glove it gives you that little ringing sound.”

Cacares did his first backyard brawl at 17, making between $300 and $600 per fight. If he won, he’d get spiffed by the winning bettors. He’d take home as much as $800 on some nights.

“It’s a crazy experience. The crowd might not be as big as UFC crowd, but man they sound really loud because they’re literally two feet away from you and we’re fighting in a chicken cage. It’s kind of like a pit fight, a dog fight. But it was a good experience,” said Cacares.

He’s clearly fearless. There were no structured weight classes, no rounds, no time limits, no doctor to look at cuts and the fights went to the finish. You win when your opponent quits, can’t continue or you submit him.

Things are different now in many ways. Most importantly, Cacares is actually fighting guys his size. He fought on Season 12 of “The Ultimate Fighter” at 155 pounds, but he barely walks around above 150. Now he’s more comfortable down at 135 and can be a bully in the division.

Cacares was excellent in his UFC bantamweight debut against Cole Escovedo. On Saturday, Cacares (6-4, 1-2 UFC) takes a good step up against Edwin Figueroa. The shorter Figueroa is the only guy recently who’s given phenom Michael McDonald a fight, going the distance in losing a decision. The promotion is so high on MacDonald that he’s been throw in there with former bantamweight champ Miguel Torres in February. If Cacares takes out Figueroa, that’s a big notch on his belt.

Bernie Ecclestone – No plans to put the brakes on

In an exclusive interview with the Guardian as his 80th birthday approaches, F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone speak out about a variety of subjects, from the future of the sport to Margaret Thatcher, Hitler, Saddam Hussein, democracy, football and what continues to drive him.

The way I feel at the moment, why stop? I do it because I enjoy it. And yesterday is gone. I don’t care what happened yesterday. What else would I do? People retire to die. I don’t get any individual pleasure because we don’t win races or titles in this job. I’m like most business people. You look back at the end of the year and you see what you’ve achieved by working out how much money the company has made. That’s it.

UFC fighters make their Super Bowl 46 picks

Posted in Uncategorized on February 4th, 2012 by fannieriley0

LAS VEGAS — Athletes are athletes. Every sport has its stars, grunts and primadonnas.

Super Bowl 46 and the NFL have too many to count and so does the UFC.

Scott Bemis from the local CBS television affiliate in Las Vegas decided to mix the two worlds. Check out Roy Nelson and myself on KLAS trying to come up with our star QB, diva receiver, kicker, coach and intimidating hitter from the UFC.

Everyone loves the NFL. The audience in the U.S. is expected to top 150 million. Plenty of fighters will be glued to a TV set or partying around Super Bowl 46. The promotion asked a bunch of the fighters at UFC 143 for their plays on the game.

Georges St-Pierre, UFC welterweight champion
“I’ve not a clue about the rules of football but I will be screaming for New York because it’s the closest city to Montreal.”

Carlos Condit, UFC interim welterweight title challenger
“I’m going to take the New York Giants. Sometimes being an underdog is the greatest motivation. I’m an underdog against Diaz this Saturday and it’s going to be the weekend of the dog.”

Roy Nelson, UFC heavyweight
“My picks for game day are Bud Light for the bud bowl. As for the other entertainment on that day, I have not picked my favorite commercial yet but it is usually the one with bigger budget, but the Cinderella story can always happen and that’s why I love the tournament format. As for the filler, I don’t have a pick but it definitely will be a showdownwith the New York Giants and New England, but my bet is on the one with “New” in their name.”

Josh Koscheck, UFC welterweight
“I am mad because those are not my two favorite teams. That said, I think it should be a good, hard fought game. I’m not sure who will come out on top.”

Brendan Schaub, UFC heavyweight
“My prediction for the game is it’s going to be a good game–high scoring from both teams. In order for the Giants to win, they have to get pressure on Tom Brady from the D-line so he can’t sit in the pocket and drop bombs to his monster tight ends Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski, however even with that being said I think New England will be just too much for the Giants and pull off a late 4th quarter game-winning drive adding to the Brady legacy.”

Clifford Starks, UFC middleweight
“I have to go with the Patriots, I know that they remember the last time they lost to the Giants and they are looking to take that bitter taste out of their mouth.”

Max Holloway, UFC featherweight
“I’m going to have to take the Giants. I think they’ve got the defense to hold Brady and his offense down. Also because Eli is one lucky dude I swear. I think he could close his eyes and throw the ball and it would land into one of his receivers’ hands. The Giants are just something else when they play in the post-season. Their wide receivers have just been on these last couple of games.”

Matt Brown, UFC welterweight
“I predict the Patriots will win simply because New England is title town. My fiancé is from Massachusetts, home of the Patriots, Celtics, Red Sox, and Bruins. All the winning teams are from MA so there is no way the Pats will walk away defeated. It also helps that Patriots QB Tom Brady has the best record of any NFL quarterback in the modern era with at least 100 starts.”

Chris Cope, UFC welterweight
“I’m picking the Patriots because their offensive line is stacked and Brady is always clutch during the playoffs! Woooooooooooo!!!!!!!! Patriots!”

Stephen Thompson, UFC welterweight
“Eli Manning’s offense is very strong which will allow him to move the ball well especially in the air. Their D line is strong which will allow their D-Backs to do their jobs.”

Edwin Figueroa, UFC bantamweight
“Personally, I’m from Texas and when it comes to football I bleed silver and blue – Cowboys all the way win or lose! Onlytrue fans can say that! On that note though, I’m rooting for the Patriots to avenge their 2008 final loss to the Giants. Go Pats!”

Ed Herman, UFC middleweight
“I’m going to have to go with the underdog Giants. I enjoy rooting for the underdog plus their defense has been stellar. Go Giants!”

Scott Jorgensen, UFC bantamweight
“Patriots over the Giants! AFC east all the way! If it ain’t the Bills in the bowl, I want to see the division do well to justify the Bills performance.”

Super Bowl weekend is huge in Sin City. The UFC’s decision to hold a Super Saturday card each year in Vegas is brilliant. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority is estimating an additional 286,000 people will come to town. Hotels are at near 90-percent occupancy and the non-gaming revenue generated by this weekend is $87 million.

Future Earbuds Won’t Care If You Mix Up Left and Right [Headphones]

It’s 7am….and you can’t keep the diva waiting!  During an exhausting recording session (where they cranked out 5 songs) Mariah Carey lets her good friend Jermaine Dupri "have it" about spending too much time on his Global 14 site when they should be in the studio working.

It’s clearly a discussion….not an argument, but it’s still fun to see the old pals go it.

Watch their "talk" here:

Also in music……

Ashanti stopped by "Access Hollywood Live" earlier to discuss the new direction her career is taking….AWAY from the former drama that surrounded her at Murder, Inc. She said,

“The label I was with kinda fell under an indictment and that actually put a hold on everything. It was like a black cloud that I had to kinda come out of and we had to do a lot of damage control. I felt that I wanted to distance myself from that. I did Broadway, I did some films, I did John Tucker Must Die, I did Resident Evil. I just had to regroup and say we’re gonna have a fresh start and I’m gonna try to put my business hat on and try to look for a different angle to approach the music. The industry was changing dramatically in those past three years.”

Now she’s back with with her fifth album, due this summer, and her single “The Woman You Love” featuring Busta Rhymes climbing the charts.

British royal family announces iOS and Android wedding app

Posted in Uncategorized on February 1st, 2012 by fannieriley0

William and KateTo celebrate the imminent marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Royal Collection will release an Android an iOS app that chronicles the last seven royal marriages, including Queen Victoria’s marriage to Prince Albert in 1840.

Ironically, the app won’t actually feature anything to do with William and Kate’s marriage — rather, it will focus on the “tradition, splendor and romance” that are intrinsic to British royal marriages. “[The app] will share the stories of past royal weddings and offer a wealth of historical context for the ceremony on April 29.”

Unfortunately, the app, which has been lumbered with the fantastically creative name of ‘Royal App,’ won’t be available until April 18 — just 11 days before Kate’s big day. It won’t be free, either: it’ll cost the rather princely sum of £1.79, or three of your Tea Party-loving dollars. The money will go to the Royal Collection, though, which is a good cause!

Bing begins roll out of HTML5-enhanced search interface

Posted in Uncategorized on February 1st, 2012 by fannieriley0
Bing transitions

Bing’s new HTML5-and-CSS3-enhanced search interface, which was first demonstrated back in September 2010 to showcase the power of IE9, has started to roll out.

The most notable addition to the new interface is is smooth page transitions — the fade in and out — and navigation tabs (maps, images, videos, etc.) now persistently float at the top of the page. WinRumors is also reporting that a feature reminiscent of Google Instant search is being added to Bing, with page elements smoothly transitioning in and out as you type in your search query.

If you want to try out the new Bing UI, your best bet is to set your locale to United States – English and pray that you’re part of the initial roll out. Alternatively, just wait a few days until MIX 2011, Microsoft’s Web developer conference, which is when the new Bing UI should be officially launched.

BASKETBALL LOVER: Gabrielle Union GOES GOLD For OCEAN DRIVE MAGAZINE

Posted in Uncategorized on February 1st, 2012 by fannieriley0

Gabrielle Union is showcasing her fabness for Ocean Drive Magazine.  The gorgeous actress rocked a gold fish-scale like dress for the cover of the Miami based mag, and she talked about why the MIA has become more of a home to her than any other place.  We’re sure her Heat star boyfriend has a lot to do with that.

Pics and interview highlights inside…

Posing in bold colors, shaggy accents, furs, and a basketball, Gabby is looking fabulous in the February 2012 issue of OCEAN DRIVE Magazine.  And she revealed why keeping her home in L.A. that she bought with her own money is important.  But why she still hates being away from Miami.

The 39-year-old Good Deeds actress is revealing why she feels Miami is the only place she can truly be herself.  And why she never thought about being a mother…but can envision it 5 years from now:

On getting sick when she’s away from Miami:
"A week away is pretty much it for me. When I land in Miami, I feel like I’ve been holding my breath and am finally exhaling. I can breathe. I feel accepted, welcomed. I feel like I can be my true self, the woman I always aspired to be… More in Miami than any other place."

On keeping her house in California:
"[It has been] great because I have my own career and life elsewhere, I have a home I paid for with my own money, and I need to be able to nurture that as well."

On life with Dwyane Wade in Miami:
"D and I have a life together, too. I love my life in Miami, I can’t imagine functioning without both, I love the design district, I love Midtown, I love what’s happening downtown now. I can be at People’s Bar-B-Que or Sustain or Prime One Twelve, and I’m comfortable. It’s rare for me to feel that level of freedom. Miami represents joy for me."

On seeing a more diversely cast group of lead actresses:
"It’s great for the other groups that are getting a chance to play more roles, and ideally, I’d like to think there were enough roles for everyone. But we are trying to get [filmmakers and producers] to consider that the doctor, a lawyer, even the lead could be an African-American woman."

On her career:
"I’ve been lucky; for the past year, I haven’t really auditioned for anything; the parts I got were straight-up offers. I’m not so grand that I wouldn’t audition. In fact, I wish I could audition more. There are a lot of people who won’t give me a chance because I was in ‘Bring It On’ one thousand years ago. They don’t think I can be more than that sassy sidekick. I guess they didn’t see ‘Cadillac Records’ or ‘Neo Ned.’"

On starting a family:
"I was never someone who thought about having kids – I mean, they’re great in theory, but I never imagined having one [myself]. Maybe over the next five years I could wrap my brain around becoming a mother and what that would mean in terms of sacrifice and dedication. I don’t do anything impulsively, so more toward the five years out than the one-year."

No longer having to audition, can live double lives in Miami and L.A., and has a man who adores her–no matter what folks say.  Must be nice….

<P>No matter your stature in rap, working with <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/dr_dre/artist.jhtml">Dr. Dre</a> is a pretty big deal. Newcomers like Kendrick Lamar and Slim the Mobster have seen their careers grow considerably after working with the good doctor, while veterans like Busta Rhymes and 50 Cent have marveled at Dre's in-studio work ethic. For <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/t_i_/artist.jhtml">T.I.</a>, however, simply working with the West Coast production king isn't enough. He wants to develop a tighter musical bond.

On Tuesday (December 28), Tip leaked a trailer for the <a href="http://rapfix.mtv.com/2011/12/27/ti-gets-studio-time-with-dr-dre-mixtape-trailer">mixtape <i>F— da City Up</i></a> that showed him and Dre working together in the studio.

"Dre was here. He sent for me over to the spot. We really just turned up more than anything else. It was about creating chemistry," T.I. told MTV News while he was in Atlanta preparing for the New Year's Day release of the mixtape.

This isn't the first time that the King of the South has collaborated with the California legend. A few years ago, <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVatLdGfIkM" target="_blank">"Topless,"</a> a song that was said to be recorded for <a href="http://rapfix.mtv.com/2011/11/14/dr-dre-wants-a-break-from-music-no-update-on-detox/">Dre's oft-delayed <i>Detox</i></a>, leaked onto the Internet. According to T.I., their most recent session was a fruitful one.

"Of course we can get together, he got hot beats and I got dope rhymes, so we can always get together and make music," Tip said. "But for people to feel what we're sayin' and for it to sound like a party comin' through your speakers, you gonna have to create some chemistry. So that's what we spent more time doin' than anything else; developing that chemistry."</p>
